Implant aftercare

The first week after implant placement: cold compresses for swelling, prescribed medication as directed, soft food away from the surgical site, and no smoking, smoking in the healing window is the single most damaging thing you can do to a fresh implant. Gentle rinsing as instructed; no vigorous swishing in the first days.

Long term, implants live or die by hygiene. They cannot decay, but the gum and bone around them can inflame, peri-implantitis, and it is harder to treat than gum disease around natural teeth. Daily cleaning around every implant with a soft brush and interdental brushes or a water flosser, plus professional check-ups, is the non-negotiable deal you make with a fixed restoration.

Crown and veneer care

• Brush and clean between teeth exactly as with natural teeth, the margin where crown meets tooth is where decay starts.
• Ceramic cannot be whitened: keep your natural teeth matched with sensible stain habits and periodic professional cleaning.
• Do not use teeth as tools. Bottle caps, packaging and nails chip ceramic as happily as enamel.
• If you grind at night, wear the night guard, it protects a four-figure smile with a two-figure appliance.
• A high spot or rough edge after you get home? Contact us, small adjustments matter and are easy to arrange.

The daily hygiene protocol

• Twice-daily brushing with fluoride toothpaste, two minutes, soft or electric brush.
• Once-daily interdental cleaning: floss, interdental brushes, or a water flosser, around implants especially.
• Antibacterial rinse only if and while prescribed; it is a medicine, not a mouthwash habit.
• Professional cleaning and check-up at least yearly, from €144 here, or with your local dentist.

Follow-up after you fly home

Your aftercare does not end at the airport. You leave Tirana with written instructions, and the coordination team stays reachable on WhatsApp for questions and photo check-ins. For implant patients, the healing months between visits include scheduled remote check-ins, and your second visit begins with a clinical review of how everything healed. Whatever arises in between, sensitivity that will not settle, a loose temporary, anything that worries you, the emergency line and your coordinator are one message away.
